On average, one to two touch-up sessions a year for the 2nd and 3rd year can achieve over 98% hair free for many years. We recommend against any form of LT hair removal if you have very dark skin. We have treated many clients with medium skin tones with much success but we do not take the risk if you have very dark skin that cannot differentiate the color of your hair and skin. Freckles and age spots may appear darker for 3 to 7 days after treatment. This is normal. Crusting may appear on the treated skin. This is also normal and should go away within a week to 10 days. In rare instances, patients may experience bruising, which typically fades in about a week.

Before your IPL treatment, you should avoid:

1. Tanning in the sun, a tanning bed, using tanning creams for 4 weeks.
2. No waxing, chemical peels or collagen shots for 2 weeks.
3. Do not wear perfume, makeup, deodorant, or any skin irritants before the appointment.
4. Do not take aspirin or other drugs that cause blood thinning.

After your IPL treatment, you should avoid:

1. Showering, swimming, hot tubbing, saunas or vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours.
2. Applying makeup over the treated areas. You can start using makeup a day or two after the treatment as long as the area does not feel sunburned. Apply and remove makeup gently from the skin treated with IPL.
3. Using scented soaps or lotions, deodorants, and active skin care ingredients that contain retinol and glycolic acids.
4. Sun exposure and tanning beds.
